Ogletree Estates Wedding Styled Shoot

“I wanted to design a wedding that included elements that were classic and timeless, but at the same time bring modern day elements into the overall look and feel. It’s almost like having the best of both worlds. It’s far from vintage, but it’s not entirely modern day either. It’s more of a mix of an elegant style and the old-world charm of the past.

Since we used a black and white color palette, it gave the design a classic and elegant appeal. Every element from the tableware, cake, dress, suit, venue and car was carefully selected to achieve this design.

Ogletree Estates is a very traditional house, built in 1908, with beautiful and original architecture on the outside and inside. These details are what mattered in keeping with the old-world charm of the past, for this design. The beautiful chandeliers throughout and the elements that we would bring in, is what helped create the modern style.

Since the house is ultra-traditional, we wanted to contrast that with bright white, unusual textures, and uncommon blooms. To achieve this, a combination of dried lunaria, dried ruscus and angelica, sarracenia, white cymbidium orchids, white anthurium, white peonies, white carnations with leagnus for greenery were used in the floral design. The tree for the ceremony location is beautiful and probably has been there for many years, which helps in bringing an element of the past in the design. To contrast that, the chandelier in the tree with the florals and greenery climbing up the trunk, added a more modern touch.

To carry on the detail of using different textures, we used this in the cake design. The entire cake is covered with white fondant then additional details were added by hand. The bottom tier is a handmade “marble” look using edible watercolor with accents of black/grey icing to add texture and depth to the cake. The middle tier has a hand-painted monogram, which was taken from the font in the invitation suite, with black fondant accents. The top tier is plain just enough to highlight the acrylic topper with just a small band of black fondant at the bottom.

The invitation suite was designed with meticulous care, to include the classic details. Using a wax seal stamp and beautiful calligraphy throughout gave a nod to the past, while the sleek way it was wrapped up in vellum paper, included the modern present.

Each piece of the tablespace was chosen to reflect the modern style in the design. With sleek plates and silverware, which gives the impression of a multiple course meal. Each place setting had a guests’ name written in calligraphy on an acrylic square.

Usually, when a bride is wanting to go with a very classy/elegant type of wedding, she will most likely get a fit and flare type of gown. With this shoot, we wanted to show that a ballgown could look just as good, so we chose to have the bride wear an Allure Bridals ballgown; accented with diamond earrings and a cathedral veil. While the groom stayed on the more classic side of style, in a black and white tuxedo, bow tie and shined shoes.

To tie everything together, a vintage car had to be included in this shoot. Not just any car. So, we included a white 1961 Rolls Royce Austin Princess.

Pictures were taken on digital and film cameras. Cinema was created to show the details and movement of each vignette.”
