Why Portraits Are Always A Good Thing

Aug 21, 2018

First of all, I feel like it has to be said, “NO! I’M NOT ENGAGED!”. There. I said it. Or if you need it in another way, “There ain’t no ring on this finger”.

(BTW this is what he tells me every time I give him sass :P).

But as you can tell, I did coerce my boyfriend into getting portraits done with me while we were in Charleston, SC where I was shooting this wonderful engagement session.

So, Why Did I Do It?

You are probably thinking, why did I spend my hard earned money on a moment that I could have gotten on a cell phone or a point and shoot. Well, to start off: The boyfriend and I have one (you heard that right), ONE photo of each other that we both like (photo here). Whenever we get a selfie, we both just look at it and go “meh”. Apparently, any photo taken within the distance of my boyfriend’s yardstick length arms just never satisfied either of us. Believe me. We tried. It just never worked out.

So, I decided that I wanted photos of us so I can show off how cute we are. Or at least have photos besides my travels and my childhood photos in our apartment. But, no matter what, these are memories. No matter what they are. Yes it might be more “My girlfriend made me wear a blazer and go knee deep in the ocean” for him. But for me? It’s how I could make him laugh by whispering “penis” into his ear or how he would say “f*** you” back into mine to make me laugh. (Yes, we have a very “colorful” relationship, despite our mother’s unyielding requests to stop). And every time I see these photos on my desk or on my wall, you can bet that I’m smiling to myself.

But why should you care?

I just want to encourage you to think outside of the box for a moment. When was the last time you got professional photos taken? Was it last year? Or was it, god forbid, your wedding day a couple of years ago?!?!?!

Photos are able to take snapshot of your life at that present moment. My advice to you? Don’t regret missing out on capturing a real moment because you wanted to save some money. Life is short. Eat the cake, Darling!
